The Worst Thing You Can Bring to Game Night

He would also bring whatever pretty boy he was currently seeing... who always wanted to play games. AND he would show up on time.He moved to Denmark to get married.

Now I am lucky if my gaming buddies bring a six pack and a bag of cheesies. More often they show up with one can of soda (for themselves) and eat all my food and drink my beer.

Pretty sure this is a good reason to legalize gay marriage in the USA.

You should have sent him to Toronto!

I think the worst thing you can bring is a bad attitude. The snacks and stuff never bother me because my friends know better than to touch my shit with cheezed fingers. With our group we have a sort of unwritten agreement that the person hosting will provide food, while the people coming provide the booze. If we don't plan on drinking then everyone pitches in for some pizza or something.

When someone has a really crummy attitude at game night it can ruin the whole day. If you're getting beat bad in one game don't whine about it. Suck it up and take it like a man.

The other thing I really hate are smart phones...they always come to game night and the do nothing but provide people with distractions. It has little to do with game night and more with our society though. People are ALWAYS looking down at their phones. If we're at a bar, people will just stand there checking facebook or playing words with friends. It drives me fucking nuts. When I'm with people I keep my phone in pocket unless it rings or I get a text. Sometimes I feel like people can no longer socialize in real life. They rely on twitter and facebook to interact.

I agree about the smartphones. Nothing like having your opponet sending texts or playing some game on their phone to make you feel connected in the gaming experience. I remember playing War of the Ring, and my opponet was doing some phone thing during my turn... looks up asks what I did, makes his move, goes back to his phone.

All great choices to fix those MSG deficiencies.

Munchkin.

Your own house rules for something everyone is looking forward to playing.

I disagree about the bad attitude thing. What's the guy gonna do? Call ahead and say, ''guys I'm not feeling it. I won't make it out tonight'? Our game groups aren't big (3-5 guys) and if one guy at the last minute decides to bail when everyone else has planned this ahead of time with their wives and children, it sort of sucks. People can be in bad moods sometimes, it`s life and you shouldn't hide in your basement when you,re in a bad mood (unless you're bipolar or something). If someone shows up with a bad attitude, call them on it right away (don't be confrontation or mean tho) and that might snap the guy out of it. ''Look who snowed up full of vinegar!'' is something I would say (or someone would say to me).

My wife and I have another couple we game with regularly. We all have kids which are girls and around the same age, except for my son of course. So, the kids thing really isn't a factor as they keep each other entertained. What I do dislike, however, is that they always bring cheese poofs or have cheese poofs at their place when we go there. Despite my best efforts to express my dislike of the poofs.

The bad attitude is really the worst thing...

I used to game regularly with a guy who was really particular about what games we played. Which is the exact opposite of me. I always say "play whatever, I don't care, just put a game in front of me". But this guy, if we played something he didn't like or THOUGHT he might not like, he'd literally go outside, put his head down, or mill around sulking. I just didn't get it.

Bad attitude can also be those folks that get pissy about stuff that goes on in games. I just do not care enough about games to ever get mad about a certain play, missed rule, or whatever. People that do can fuck off from my table. I am not in this hobby to deal with people that get so invested in a game that they get _angry_ while trying to have fun with a group.

Yeah, I also have a friend who gets upset when he realizes he's not going to win and gets grumpy.

Barney, this one made me laugh. Mostly because I'm bipolar.

I really try to keep up my part of the bargain, which is to stay medicated and everything else falls into place, mostly becauser I try to play within my groups. Shelly told me eons ago that I almost have an empathic sense of when moods are changing in a room. This is a social hobby as everyone knows. Fun killers are not needed. Paying attention to the overall mood of a group is my thing. Of course, it hasn't always worked, but it is a good rulew of thumb for those "mood disabled" guys. The great thing about the Fattie guys is their patience and great attitudes. it really makes it easy to have a good time and "spread the fun".

I`m totally stealing ''mood-disabled'' that is just such a brilliant term. Yeah Dave I wasn't makin' fun of your condition or anything. I was trying to make excuses (attempting to show tolerance) for people that are allowed to be a little off their rockers now and then. I bet I would prefer your 'mood-disabled' personality to a lot of my friends who don't have a medical excuse for being volatile.

I think Cloudy wins the thread with Doritos and Cheese Poofs. My buddy Dom is the loudest eater I have ever come across and when Doritos hits the table, I almsot want to sneeze in the bowl on purpose just to shield my ears from the incoming decibels of guaranteed tilt-production.

This same noisy eater is the worst loser of all time. The second he realizes he's not going to win, he stops playing ''what's the point?'' even if it,s a 3-player game.

But the thing about bad attitudes and such is that this problem solves itself. They shouldn't be reinvited to game nights. If someone has ONE bad night with a bad attitude, I think it should be forgiven and tried to fix (that night). But if someone is known to be a collosal douche (like Ken when he gets blue balls) then just don't invite them back.

I'm kind enough to provide pop for everyone provided that people don't abuse it. There used to be a person that would stop by McDonalds, get a sandwich, fries and then drink my pop. I mean, the value menu is what an extra quarter? Someone else talked to him about it....and he would start getting his own.

my buddy (the loud eater and bad loser) drinks all of my milk when he comes over. Like more than a litre of it. That`s like 3 bucks!

Can we start another thread called THE WORST THING YOU CAN BRING OUT DURING GAME NIGHT and have pics and stuff?

Nail clippers. You shouldn't need them while playing a game at my dining room table. If you do decide to start leaving nail clippings around don't expect to get invited back. Because you don't know how to be a guest in someones home.
