But the thing is, at that price they could go two ways. One is that they won't be made in large quantities and will wind up becoming obnoxious collector's items. The other is that they make way too many of them and they're $20 a piece at FFG's 2014 Holiday sale.

Given the existing state of product, preorders will probably sell out before the end of GenCon. I'm voting option A.Michael Barnes wrote: Whoa...I didn't see that price...shit. Even at Coolstuff that would still be like 65-70. I have been given pause.

I played a game recently where the person hosting had one of the old Kenner blockade runners as the focus of a scenario- Rebels protecting the disabled blockade runner while the Imps try and permanently disable it or destroying it for partial victory. It was a blast as the blockade runner had multiple sections, each with its own card (two sets of guns, sensors, shield generator and engines) that provided different capabilities.
But in the end, it was really just a glorified piece of scenery as it didn't move. We played on a 4x4 map, and if these large ships are going to move I would think you would need at least double or triple that size to make it feasible. Maybe that is the "epic" tournament format mentioned?
Or the cinematic play mode ?

Since everything is to scale, I would say "no" given how large a Star Destroyer is.

I'm pretty unenthused about this development. I recently got into X-Wing because I wanted something like Necromunda: a skirmish game. I've been selling off most of my GW stuff because I'm no longer interested in paying $90 for one model (honestly, at GW's current prices for big WHFB creatures, it's more like $120-$150/model.) A B-Wing for $15 every month? I'm all about it. But seeing how quickly the game turned from squadrons of various -Wings vs squadrons of various TIEs to dual Falcon/Slave 1 lists on every table was already a little jarring. To now turn the game into an almost-literal arms race with frigate-sized ships is not something I want to engage in. The stories running around do say "epic play" format, so one assumes that they're doing their own version of GW's Apocalypse, where games will be comprised of hundreds of points (if not thousands.) I'd still rather stick with the Necromunda-sized approach. Of course, GW long ago realized that squad-sized games are inherently limiting to their bottom line...
