Why not just include large cardstock ships to escort inside of a "map pack"? Does the market really demand 100$ products?

Damn straight it does, as long as it says STAR WARS on the box.

I think my favorite part of the old Wings of War was the simple fact that you could play it with just cards. Minis are cool, but I paid like $15 for the baloons/zeppelins WoW expansion and it came with flat heavy card airships that worked just fine.

But I won't deny that when I walk past a full-on X-Wing setup with big-ass ships that I'm going to think, "That's cool!" And in my mind I'll sound like Joe Dirt with the latest Auto Trader.

To me, it's a bit silly to buy these ships. But I think you guys are vastly underestimating the market for something like this.

And at least you know they won't look like TOTAL FUCKING DOGSHIT like the Star Trek Attack Wing models.

You think the Attack Wing models look like dog shit? I think they look EXACTLY like the Fleet Captains/Clix game models, which is "not bad, but not good, either".

I think if X-Wing didn't exist, people would be happier with them because there is no high bar (or at least a widely known high bar) with which to judge them.

As it sits, though, you can't compare X-Wing models with the Attack Wing models because they're just not in the same league. I'm not upset that they don't look as good, I'm upset that they don't look as good AT THE SAME PRICE POINT.

Of course, Star Trek nuts that are one shade above me in OCD will buy them all. Like, for instance, Mr. Luce.

There is indeed the odd chance that your Attack Wing Enterprise and your Clix Enterprise were painted by the same Chinese kid.

Actually a large chance.

I find it even more odd that in a recent survey, 13% of all Briton toddlers can use an iPad while 100% of Chinese toddlers know how to assemble one.

You're right, I was being hyperbolic. It's just that the X-wing models I have seen look extraordinarily good by comparison with the Attack Wing stuff.

Did anyone notice this blurb off the FFG Announcement ?

While the Rebel transport is only legal in the game’s Cinematic Play and Epic tournament formats, the rest of the expansion is likely to make its impact upon the standard game with five different upgrade options, a new X-wing miniature, and four new X-wing pilots, including Jek Porkins and Rebel ace Wes Janson.

(Emphasis Mine)

Mother F'in' Porkins!!!!

I wonder what having variant paintjobs means for the rest of the existing line. I hope the other two pilots are named. A generic pilot card would be a bummer unless available outside of the transport ship.

And cinematic play sounds pretty damn awesome.

Yeah, I saw that.

I'd love to hear Dave Roswell say "Jek".

I wonder though if this is a hint of what we're going to see in Wave 4...A run of repaints. Four pilot cards and five equipment cards are included which matches a X-Wing blister.

Sounds pretty doggone reasonable to me. I'd love to be able to field 10 DR.Is against 10 Camels in Wings of Glory. I'm able to differentiate them a little with Dom's Decals, but 10 paint jobs of each would like get more money out of my pocket.

With the recent WoG release wave, aren't able to field 6 per side now? I thought Ares had begun heading into repaint territory at this point [and some nice ones at that] on that line.

They are starting to work up some bigger numbers now, yes. Andrea's goal has been to use historic paint jobs exclusively so that's been a limiter. I may have some additional paint jobs for him from the College Park Aviation Museum.

That won't apply to spacecraft in movies though. They can paint the critters any way they like. It makes sense to me to have a wing of matching fighters, so mixing up the paint jobs a little would make sense, and would sell more models.

Nope, not I. I've got my small collection of bi-planes that collect dust from lack of use. I'm not about to buy into a collection of space ships to do the same thing. I'm even going to pass on those pretty pretty sailing ships though it pains me to do so.

Here is what I think of these large ships: not a good thing. I think they break the spirit of the game which is one of small groups of dogfighting space ships. I think that the Star Wars universe has a very finite number of ships from which to make models and these have all pretty much been produced already.

The game, though, is a huge hit so FF is looking for ways to keep it hot, fresh, and profitable. So you get the Falcon and Slave 1. They stretch the premise of the game but don't ruin it. Now you get these large ships. I don't really know how they'll function but it'll probably be the swarm of fighters vs. the big guy.

Do they look cool? Sure. Will they enhance the game. I'm skeptical.

What space ships?

I played X-Wing again last night and am reminded just how good the moevement and combat system is. I'm still not completely sold on the shipyard aspect of the game as it takes new guys a while to read the cards and whatnot, which means the first game is always a little longer.

That said, Dave Roswell kicked my ass the first game. The Falcon is no joke.
