That extends well past the team. Pittsburghers in general feel that it is their city's teams' god-given right to be sports champions (excepting baseball, of course, where they hope only for a .500 season).

The Pittsburgh Steelers are probably the best-run organization in professional sports, and they do remain competative every year, pretty much. So it's not unrealistic for a Pittsburgh fan to expect that their team might go to the championship.
I can easily understand how a Buffalo Bills fan might feel out-of-place in a town that possesses such nonstop confidence.
;)

The Steelers have the benefit of being owned by a fairly classy owner. How many other owners would have kept Cowher around as long as he was? In the end, Pittsburgh was rewarded by the Super Bowl win in Detroit.

Yeah, a lot of times I root for the underdog, but there is something likeable about the Steelers, even if you aren't a fan.

Now I've heard the Philly fans can be pretty frakkin' mean (wasn't that the city that booed Santa Claus?) so not sure how THAT matchup works out.

But it's hard not to like guys like Big Ben and Polomalu, or "The Bus" back in his day.

Agreed on all the above. I can't really find anything about the team to dislike. Ward is a phenomenal character. Troy and Big Ben are great to watch and also seem like great guys. Tomlin is a strong head coach. The ownership is phenomenal.

I just like when they lose because the fans get all glum, and as someone who knows suffering when it comes to sports I feel it is only right that others feel a small piece of my pain, dammit!

But I will not root for the Cardinals. If there is any justice in the world the Steelers will humiliate the redbirds. I want to see a soul crushing blow out. I want the halftime discussion to be about which Steeler will be the MVP.
