Look like a normal Romero zombie scenario to me, except we get this in seasons instead of one 2 hour block. If I recall though, that was the point of the comic. Kind of a 'what if the movie never ended' So, again, doesn't look like anything 'new' to me just 'more'.

I'm a HUGE fan of Romero's first two zed films but his greatest weakness is his shit character development.

No matter what you say about Kirkman he has created characters not that grow and change as the story progresses.

Well, wait a minute. I don't recall seeing a whole family slowly deal with this and grow as characters in this weird world over such a long period of time. It does give you a sense of what the long term might be like... you don't/can't really get that in a two hour flick.

I totally agree.

In that sense it's kind of novel... but I'm not sure that this equates to "bringing something new to the table" or not.

I say, who cares? Why can't compelling characters and stories be enough. One thing that can be said about the series is that nothing nor no one is safe from Kirkman's pen.

That alone keeps me goin' back for more.

Yeah I think the focus is more on what happens to people when something so catastrophic goes down with society. The zombies are a sort of fun way to get to that place so he can tell those stories.

Buffy the movie was great fun, but I totally agree with Jack that Buffy the show is the exact reason we have so much crap vampire/zombie/fantasy horror monster garbage these days. Fuck that shitty show. The game rules though.

You're fucking BANNED!

Besides Ann Rice is to blame for all the modern vampire romance stuff.

I third the "Joss is a cunt with a lot to answer for" motion.

Fuck both Buffy and Ann Rice. Walked in on my GF watching True Blood the other day. Fucking Desperate Housewives with vampires. Nothing horrific about it, just bland suburbia with blood on its mouth.

I am so excited to see this show, been reading the comic since high school. I agree with MadDog that I'm not too excited about the guy playing Rick, but I've only seen the 4 minute trailer. I'll reserve judgement until at least the first 90 minute episode comes out though.

Vampires stopped being relevant after Bela Lugosi.

There's some new short trailers for this over at bloodydisguting . I liked the motion comic a lot. Made me wish the show was black & white too.

I heard a rumor that when it hits DVD there will be an option to watch it in Black & White. Apparently that was a fundamental discussion when making the show. Whether to be risky enough to air it that way or not.

Turns out a friend of mine sort of works for AMC, so he's seen the first few episodes and he said it's totally awesome and I can allow myself to get really excited for it like I want to.

Watched a sneak preview of the first episode. It starts out kind of mundane (just like the comic) and picks up as more characters come into it. Don't expect anything special as far as zombie stuff goes or any real horror. Although it definitely has potential as a good drama series with guns, paranoia, and camping. Maybe that's the way it should be.

Just watched the first episode. All in all, I like it. It's a little slow at first, they change it up a little bit, but that's okay. I wouldn't have wanted a 100% accurate duplicate of the comic. Can't believe some of the violence that made it through the censors.

Sounds good Mad Dog - I think a zombie backdrop is great for the background of a drama, and could potentially draw folks in that otherwise wouldnt watch. Of course, according to Josh, the violence might be what keeps folks like my wife away...

Edit: SET TO RECORD!

Shit - just as well I'm off work today and had time to kill so have been nosing around all the threads, when I saw this title it reminded me of a short trailer I had seen recently on the FX channel and sure enough it starts next Friday in the UK.
Don't know if it will click for me but I'll be checking it out.
