This may sound like a travesty, but I've never listened to Alice Cooper. I'm seeing him open for Motley Crue in a few weeks.

Saw him open for Maiden in 2012 (he even went golfing right by my place that day), and a few years earlier before that at Heavy MTL, he still puts on a great show. Billion Dollar Babies rocks, if you're all the way up front you might catch some paper money with his face on the bills.

There's your mandate right there. Those three records and School's Out are all you need.

Cool, thanks Barnes!

Helloween is pretty freakin' awesome. That's going on when I do my long run on Saturday morning.

I don't love power metal when I'm just sitting listening to music, but I do love it when I run. Really keeps me moving.

Stiff Little Fingers (or Stuff Lartle Farngers if you want the accent)

Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster both rate in my 'want this played at my funeral party' list.

Hell yes. Both of those songs I would list among the best punk rock songs ever recorded. God, that intro- "Inflammable material planted in my head, it's a suspect device left 2000 dead..."

That whole album is just incredible, one of the most underrated (in the US at least) records of that period.

Ohhhh Wizzard is awesome! Well, some of the tracks at least. Roy Wood was/is so totally bonkers, watching some of those Top of the Pops and other music show performances is just such a head trip that this was on regular mainstream TV.

Accept? Balls To The Wall, man!

This basic stoner rock jam has my nutsack in a headlock right now.

Here's some updates:

Ex Hex - No, the singer is terrible. I like the music.

Alice Cooper - Love it to Death and Billion Dollar Babies. The latter was much better, but I like both. Sounds a lot like Kiss, but not quite as good. When there's shitty songs, they're both shitty.

Helloween - The albums you guys recommended are awesome. I listened to that on my 11 mile run Saturday morning. Kept me moving.

Smiths - I'll get back there. I've got a long road trip coming up.

Listening to Marvin Gaye right now. Trying something different.

There is literally no record ever made that is "better" than "What's Goin' On". That is by far one of the best albums of all time, absolutely incredible work and a real turning point for R&B/soul- it's really a shame that more artists in that field don't reflect more on the deeply personal, spiritual and political messages Gaye was singing about instead of the usual subject matter for the genre.

Other Marvin Gaye is great too- don't overlook his old Motown stuff just because you've heard it a billion times- "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" is just staggeringly good, for example. "Trouble Man" is good too, as Falcon suggests in The Winter Soldier.

When you're done there, check out some Al Green and Sam Cooke.

Heh, Alice Cooper does have some clunkers, that's for sure. Even on the best records. You've got to understand that he was coming from a very different background than KISS, he was very much influenced by Iggy Pop/Stooges, MC5, Amboy Dukes, Frank Zappa and so on...the whole Detroit thing.

For something different I've really been enjoying Little Sonny lately.

While you're looking into Sam Cooke you might also want to check out Sam and Dave.

I've been listening to Eleni Mandell lately. She's like the English version of Carla Bruni, former first lady of France.
