I'm not a big death metal fan, but I'm willing to try anything.

Barnes Mega-Post has a lot in it. I will read through that and add to the list.

Thirsty has impeccable taste in music, games, and liquor.

I am going to be the odd duck and say some random stuff, and being that I do not participate often I hope I am not dragging up old news.

The Replacements
Faith No More - post The Real Thing, good album but everyone knows epic. Try Angel Dust.

I really like Americana, but maybe not your cup of music tea.

Eilen Jewell
Trampled By Turtles
The Devil Makes Three

Good enough for now.

Not sure I have any recommendations, per se, just offer up what I've been listening to a lot lately which is a smattering of electronic music: techno, electro, instrumental hip hop, hop hop, UK grime etc.

Duck Sauce: More dancy, house stuff from a duo that includes one of the Chromeo guy's brother (A-Trak, who was an ITC winning scratch DJ back when he was a teenager). Fun stuff, some funny samples too.

Aux 88
Underground Resistance
Legowelt
Flying Lotus
Run the Jewels (El-P and Killer Mike)
Carl Craig
Frankie Bones
Detroit in Effect
Lady Sovereign

I like Faith No More quite a bit. But the rest is new to me so I'll add it in the list.

I've been listening to both St Paul & The Broken Bones and Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas lately. Neither is the type of artist I usually dig, but I dig these two. They're even touring together right now but they aren't coming to my town.

The Black Crowes are top shelf.

San Il Defanso wrote: Do you listen to Spoon? They had a new album come out a month or so ago and it was terrific. Actually, if you listen to any of their albums since 2001's Girls Can Tell you will get something generally excellent.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. "Gimme Fiction" is still my favorite, but you really can't go wrong with a Spoon album.

"Get Fired" by Smoking Popes is the best album I've bought all year. It came out in 1993, still better than most things to come out since.

My favorites are Kill The Moonlight and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. That said, I think they are the only band where I have literally heard almost all of their albums named as SOMEone's favorite. I don't think there's any actual consensus, meaning they are just that consistent.

I haven't been venturing around a lot lately, but things I've been listening to quite a bit:

Deltron 3030
- Trip hop. Kind of a side project for MC Del the funky homosapien, DJ Kid Koala, and producer Dan the Automator. Both albums are killer, especially for nerds like us who will get the Neuromancer references.
North Mississippi All-Stars- Delta blues/rock. Really upbeat jam band stuff.
Lydia Loveless- I'm not normally a country fan, but her lyrics are brilliant and she has great energy and a fantastic voice.
Rollins Band- Henry, post-Black Flag. Come in and Burn is probably my favorite release of theirs.
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant- Best Japanese garage band ever.
Gogol Bordello- Gypsy punk. I especially like Super Taranta.
Streetlight Manifesto- Recent wave ska.
Miles Davis- Sorcerer. It's one of his less-acknowledged releases with the second quintet from late in the post-bop period. For some reason, the abstract nature of it has been really appealing lately.

Oh wow, The Michelle Gun Elephant...totally forgot about that band. Misread the title of The Damned's second LP and added "Thee" to be like Thee Headcoats. I have there first record or two somewhere.

NOT better than Guitar Wolf though.

I'm going to see the Lost Loves tour in Philly next month. Can't wait - they're a kickass live band.

Interesting to see Tokyo Police Club getting some love in this thread. I haven't liked any of their stuff quite as much as A Lesson in Crime, but I haven't heard Forcefield yet.

Michael Barnes wrote: Cold Cave... Dude only has one arm and a BLACK prosthetic, which is...kind of awesome.

-Oh man, American Nightmare was awesome!
-Yeah, they single handedly changed hardcore...

Seriously though, their first 7 inch is incredible. First track is one of the best, angriest songs I've ever heard. On Spotify you need to search for Give Up the Ghost cause they got sued by some bar band (and started to suck anyway). I'm pretty sure it's up there on some comp: There's A Black Hole In The Shadow Of The Pru

Can't stand Cold Cave though.

If you dig that AN track, you should check out Carry On - A Life Less Plagued

I am old. I have gotten to the point in my life when keeping up with new music is exhausting so I mostly just listen to stuff I already know I like. I know there's music for me out there, as I occasionally stumble on it, but finding it is daunting.

The last time I collected together songs I like, these were the results:
Remember to Close All Parentheses

That's the sort of thing I like. Since then I have liked the following:
The Mother We Share - Chvrches
Feel it All Around - Washed Out
Girls - Deep Sea Arcade
Dance Apocalyptic - Janelle Monae
No Fool Boletus - ANAXATON6
Pompeii - Bastille

I'm always looking for more of the similar.
