I need help with a cartoon. What do you think Eugene's favorite game piece would be and why? It should be the contrary of "massive firepower". The provost is a promising contestant, but I can't think of a proper phrase why it should be Eugene's favorite piece.

It would obviously be the stand-up cardboard Louis XIV piece. It represents elegance and design minimalism, the pinnacles of game design to which all others aspire.

No way man, it's gotta be the Grande.

The obvious but not very creative answer would be the meeple...Maybe the big meeple, cause Eugene likes to get cah-razy.

After a couple of wine coolers, he may call that Meeple with the upturned hand (arm, whatever) his favorite. That's NUTS!

I was thinking the wooden cube. Its simple elegance is truly representative of everything Eugene seems to like.

Not to mention that the wooden cube, with its handcrafted idiosyncracy in today's video game world, exudes a certain olde worlde charme.

Duh. It's obviously his handmade FIMO animeeples, which he stores in color-coordinated tuckboxes.

What is the grande's function in the game?

Actually, I think that Michael is thinking of the King, which looks like a Victorian buttplug. The Grande really is a wooden cube, albeit a large one.

The King determines which regions on the map are in play during a given round. Regions adjacent to the King's region are in play. The King's region is out of bounds. I think I recall that you can modify other regions (i.e. regions that are neither the King's region nor adjacent to the King) using the powers on the action cards.

You can place cubes in the regions adjacent to the one the grande is in, but not his region itself. It's one of the more thematic elements to the game.

So you can use it to protect your area?

If yes, then that's the wuss game piece I'm looking for.

Oops...yeah, not playing EL GRANDE in like 10 years will make you forget that the phallic piece is the King.

The Grande though...yes, that's definitely Eugene's piece. It's a wooden cube, but it's _slightly bigger_ than the other wooden cubes.

My friends, family and I really like El Grande. A couple weeks ago (after 2 years of playing the base version) we finally tried a foray into the expansions. First step: Intrigue & The King.

WHAT A PILE. In the course of 1 game, we had about 13 questions we couldn't really answer. I think there was like zero playtesting of this game. Ugh
