Chap, it's "most embarassing Eurogame you own", not "which game do you own would make a good chick flick".

Modern Art is a good showcase of every bidding-centric Eurogame.
I prefer Princes of the Renaissance because it has artillery.

Euphrat & Tigris was the 1st Euro I ever tried, before I even knew what a "Euro" was. I just thought it was some filler shit we were going to play between Advanced Squad Leader & Advanced Third Reich. E&T is still one of the good ones.

I can actually justify MODERN ART. At least it was one of those first Eurogames and you might have played E&T or RA and thought MODERN ART might be good too. Of course, it is the 1st Mayfair edition you own so I'll not belabor the point any longer since you certainly wouldn't own one of the more recent Ameritrash-era reprints.

Are you saying that MODERN ART sucks, but that he can be forgiven for buying it, because of the understandable expectation that it was another RA?

That's just wrong.

MODERN ART is a classic. It involves money, actually talking to other people to influence their decisions, market manipulation, and bluff. The tension is comparable to other classic bidding games, like Poker.

A game doesn't automatically suck just because it has auctions.

Pic Picnic. It came recommended as a good kid's first auction game from TOS. Bought it, read the rules and knew it was never going to fly with my brood. Too bland.

The little girls around here love CALIFORNIA. There are now several copies owned in my circle of parents of girl gamers. Although, some of the older girls are growing out of it, and into longer and more complex games.

I'll have to try that. So far, every kids game recommended by F:AT has been a hit at my house.

I own 0 embarrassing Eurogames, I traded the Euro skeletons out of my closet last year (PR, Princes of Florence, Santiago, etc). Here's what I still own and I won't trade:

Caylus - At the competitive level, Caylus is can be played in 90 minutes and it is a brutally cut throat. I'm sure my blood pressure goes up about 30 points when I play this game.

California and Alhambra - I call it Sims the board game and Sims Spain. I have fun playing it with my daughters and wife.

Modern Art - The best and only auction game needed in your collection. To play this game correctly you should be a total bullshitting, trash talking wanker.

Amun Re - Yes, Knizes pasted on a theme and threw together a bunch of mechanism but some how it worked here.

Ticket to Ride - God I hate this game. It's not really embarrassing because it is suppose to be a "gateway" game. I still have it rated a 6 on BGG but every time I play it I feel like I'm grouting my bathroom. TTR is like something I have to do to be nice to my Eurofriends but I hate every moment of this stupid game.

Other Euros I own: Settlers, Thebes, Tribune - All have enough theme, randomness and fun to play with my Euro friends. When my Euro friends suggest playing Ticket to Hell, I can politely say how about Settlers, Thebes or Tribune instead?

Can't Give Away - Time Pirates, Runner-Up Downtown (+ numerous card games)

May finally be getting rid of them - www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/39629 .... as long as someone bids :-p

But, serious now - it was a good idea and the end result is better than a thrift shop dump.

Three-way tie: Blue Moon City, Stone Age and Notre Dame. I think I'd be in trouble if I sold them off though. I sold most of my embarrassing crap a few months back.
