Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)

Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× Talk abut Movies & TV here. Just tell us what you have been watching. Have hyper-academic discussions on visual semiotics. Whatever, it's all good.

Suggest some Man movies that I can get on Netflix/Hulu/RedBox/Zune

Yeah, that was a good one. I was really surprised by it. I'd never heard of it before but I wanted to see it because Helen Mirren was in it. I really liked Excalibur and that Greenaway movie she was in (and Prime Suspect).

Just finished Zulu. Fan-fucking-tastic. Now it's Deathrace 2000 time. 10 minutes in and this fucker is ridiculous. Off to a good start with a Nazi racing chick.

Good choice! Deathrace 2000 is stellar!

Got to love the ugly boobies. I have to admit, back in the 70s, there were REAL people in movies. No way David Carradine with his smoker's grill would be a star. No way those not-so-perfect boobies on Frankenstein's navigator would be shown.

I love the old movies because people back then looked like people, not like androids.

/end rant

Try 3 Days. Not the biggest Russell "PhoneThrower" Crowe fan, but this movie was pretty good.

So many choices, so little time!

I agree with your sentiment, Pete. Movies in the 70s had less-than-perfect people in them. I really love that. And I love the women in those movies.

I take one look at Emma Watson and I'm glad it's not the 70s anymore. You guys are frickin' nuts.

If you want less-than-perfect people, leave the movie theatre and you'll enjoy what the world has to offer standing in line for a 3rd popcorn refill

Zulu and DR2000...you've made some great choices so far.

Remember the 70s are when guys like Gene Hackman could be seen as a sex symbol. The 70s were a great time for movies. For me the 80s also hold a special place for the goofball sci-fi and fantasy that was produced, but moving into the 90s we start getting all the cgi fests... :(

That's what I'm saying, Jeff. People were real. You didn't have to be a manufactured creature made partially of synthetics in order to be a movie star.

And I'd argue that women back in the 70s were naturally prettier, on balance, than they are now. Look at the obesity rate then, then now. Look at the fact implants didn't exist yet there were always big boobies flopping about. I mean, shit..the EXTRAS in older movies are generally as naturally pretty as some of the women today, without collagen or ass implants. :)

That being said, the top 5% is always the top 5%

I'm almost finished with Dirty Mary Crazy Larry. My wife would hate this movie. Not sure what's next. I'm torn on some bad fantasy movie or Sonatine. I'll let you know. Either way, I've got lots of good viewing for the future.
