I've been away on vacation and once back stayed out of this thread because it seemed to have taken on some kind of weird life of its own. Now 10 pages later it's still going strong. So here's my two cents...Pete provided a link to an undeniably scathing (some might say over-the-top) criticism of a designer everyone here knows.
There was no editorial comment other than: Wow. It was just posted for its news value. I for one come here looking for news and commentary and board game related stuff to talk about. If we're too afraid to post this kind of stuff, what little content that is contributed by the average user will dry up entirely.
I know Pete is controversial (and carries a coach gun) but I don't really understand how this thread got so out of control and personal. I don't agree with everything Pete or Michael Barnes write but I sure find them entertaining even when they occasionally rub me the wrong way. Passionate, opinionated characters make this site more interesting as opposed to boring. It's one of the reasons I come here.
We've got a decent little community here...a subset of boardgamers that share a common interest in games that aren't predictable and boring. We like theme. We like to take risks. We like to roll dice. We're all about fun. We have a lot more in common than what separates us. I think we can talk about games without ripping into each other (unlike that one Friday where Matt and I were ripping into each other over female stereotypes). Wouldn't want to lose the Friday Freakouts! Shit it IS Friday. Uh Oh.
@tscook....be careful. Opposites attract. He may love you.
