Hah, I just heard that old Dead Kennedys song on the radio yesterday, "California Uber Alles."
On the radio? Holy cow. But then again, Holiday in Cambodia is a song on Guitar Hero III.
For roughly 15 years now, we've had a great college radio station in town, who you can check out online at radiok.org. Then a couple of years ago, two of the best local DJs hijacked the Minnesota affiliate of NPR. Mark Wheat is a disciple of John Peel and also worked at RadioK, while Mary Luccia worked at another cool local station that was around for just a few years in the '90s, and is also the kid sister of Paul Westerberg, best known for his work with The Replacements. Anyway, not only is The Current a great radio station, but they also post their playlist online:
So if you go back to February 11, you can see that they played California Uber Alles at 5:46 PM. During rush hour, even. I guess it wasnt literally yesterday, but time flies when you have great music at hand.
Well, okay, we don't make it with leftover nasty junk but actual fresh sausage, but the spirit's the same.
There's a difference?
If you haven't eaten fresh pork, whether sausage, ham, or chops, you haven't lived. I am constantly baffled at how New Yorkers think they have the best food in the world. Best prepared food? Sure. Tastiest ingredients? I think not. That is reserved for farm country. Give me fried chicken who was clucking and running around an hour ago, corn on the cob picked straight off the stalk, and fresh tomatoes from the garden over a restaurant meal anyday. Same goes for pork, especially sausage. Bonus points if you grew the sage yourself.
[gets off of food soapbox]
I was just joking. While I don't dine on swine, I do eat turkey sausage and I'm sure putting that together isn't pretty.
