You must either be independently wealthy, or didn't see the kind of salaries they advertised when they had some open positions last year.
I assure you I'd make enough to afford a vacation in Scotland.

Chick: "Who'd want to move to Minnesota?"
During a brutal summer of unemployment in Indianapolis, I decided that I needed to move somewhere with a better job market. I knew that I wanted to stay in the Midwest and live in a city, so that narrowed it down. It turned out that the Twin Cities had the best job market, but at the time, Indianapolis had the second best job market. So I thought it over carefully, weighing the merits of both cities:
Indianapolis:
+ a lot of my friends still live there
+ I grew up there, so I know where everything is
- too many rednecks
- too much pollution
- my friends are always cockblocking each other when we hit the bars
- job market might be better than most, but I haven't found anything in three months
- nightlife scene is kind of dull
Twin Cities:
+ half my relatives on both sides of the family live in Minnesota
+ best job market in the midwest (at that time)
+ great local music scene
+ a lot of cultural stuff, plays, museums, etc.
+ not many rednecks
+ lots of lakes and parks
- really harsh winters
- bad traffic
Oh, and I actually did work for Fantasy Flight for a short time. The pay was reasonable for what it was, light assembly work, and it was a fun place to work. Great music, good conversation and an awesome company Christmas party. However, when I was offered a job as an accountant there, I had to turn it down. I was overqualified, and I had a high-maintenance girlfriend to support, so I moved on as soon as I found the kind of job that I was after.

If you like someone, and want to get to know them better, and posssibly develop a relationship beyond that of work acquaintance and that someone suggests you get together and do something outside of work, even if it is something that you don't know if you will like or not, you will probably say yes. Heck, I've taken cooking classes, learned how to rubber stamp home made greeting cards, gone antiquing, attended a wine tasting, and picked berries at an organitic farm co-op because someone I liked and wanted to get to know better invited me along.

Joe & Bob don't want to play Tom's games, because they don't want to play with TOM. They are clearly making lame excuses just to be polite. DUH.
Good point. Maybe they know he's the type of "friend" that would write about them on the internet without their prior consent.

Sounds like a regional thing, or maybe just a camping thing. NOT SEXUAL AT ALL.

I fear that this discussion on Clearclaw and creamed hamburger will degenerate beyond the usual, and I just had a nice sandwich. So:

Count me in on the people who hate doing math unless it is at work -- I get enough of that shit all day, why would I want to spend my free time thinking about numbers or optimization?

"...it was fairly easy to start off playing a game like “Oh Hell” with regular cards.
... Since then we’ve evolved and play things like ... Galloping Pigs."
And even Larry Levy's comment, the only comment which dares to disagree with the article, claims that "They don’t love games", despite the fact that they fucking memorize chess openings and two-letter words for Scrabble.
