What kills me is that the scale of these sales volumes (2-3M$ each) absolutely guarantees huge economies of scale, and with oil being incredibly cheap, freight from China being cheap, and a lack of middle men via direct sales, these people are making a fucking killing. And nobody seems to care. It's amazing. There's the same amount of bits in Temple of Elemental Evil as there is in something like Dungeon Saga, yet Wizards can sell it for 44$ at discounter OLGSs and make money whereas CMON and now Modiphius (and all the rest of the plastic-heavy publishers) can't seem to do it for less than $139.

It's not an economic thing, it's a matter of (like Frohike alluded to), they've all collectively realized that we don't give a fuck and will throw money at them ceaselessly provided they give us lots of plastic and theoretical fun 8 months after payment.

if you think the sculpts and quality of materials (much less graphic design/art) of something like Temple of Elemental Evil compares to The Others or Blood Rage, you're crazy.

You're also not making a straight comparison for many of these. Those $100+ pledges aren't just the base game (with the same amount of miniatures as TOEE). Rather, it's usually 3 times as many miniatures that are higher quality than TOEE because it includes expansions/stretch goals.

Blood Rage is probably a better comparison. $18 more than TTOEE and 5 more minis.

Wasn't TOEE using the same sculpts as the D&D miniatures stuff? If so, that's hardly a fair comparison. The sculpting and molding is the majority of the cost.

I would rather spend under $50 and get cardboard standees. But I'm not much of a modeler or a painter.

Yeah I'm hoping it gets to stretch goals so Pixel Blocks are included. I was surprised how much I enjoyed playing with them.

How big are those blocks?

I think 1 inch faces. The prototype ones I've seen (he sent me one team) use wooden blocks from the craft store. You could definitely just craft your own.

I think the ones that get included in the game (if it gets there) will be plastic.

Yes, they say plastic on the page. That goal is $2500, so it would take $80k to get blocks for all the teams. Not very likely.

Yeah, I don't think all of the teams is a necessity, but having the core 8 would be nice.

So I see siege of the citadel today. I get a tiny bit excited, then close the page.

I haven't seen anything on ks that has excited me in forever. At least, not enough to back it.

I love the warzone stuff, but I just no longer care for the style even if the game is good.

I think the mike McVey/cmon project has really killed any interest I have in is. I'd rather just go to the store and buy it than be a part of a hype train.

Plus, I can likely find these things cheaper at discount through retail after publication.

I was wrong on this. They're .75" blocks that fit a size Michaels carries.

Have to admit to being a little intrigued by this despite having almost zero knowledge of or interest in football. Maybe it's because I've dabbled in sports board games at various points or have some memories of Techmo Bowl for the NES.
